Notes for LEWIS CLARK CAMP: Leader-Harold Oct 25, 1979Obituary: Lewis Clark Camp life long resident of Platteville,died Saturday, Oct 13 at Eventide of Greely. He was 97. He wasborn Nov. 28, 1881, to John and Mary Camp on a farm eight milessouth of Platteville. L.C. began helping on the farm by milkingcows and driving the plow teams at an early age. The lifelongPlatteville resident attended St. Vrain school in CountyDistrict 6. His family later moved to Platteville. In 1893,Camps's father built a home for the family. While L.C. attendedschool in Platteville he carried in the coal, swept and dustedfor $2.50 a room. After finishing school Camp worked for CharleyVollmar's Creamery and hauled milk for CO. Condensed Milk afterVollmars sold out. On June 28, 1905 Camp married Lucy Egner, wholived across the river from him where the Norgens now farm. Inhis first year of marriage, Camp took up farming but abandonedthe work after a hail wiped out his crops. Camp went to work inthe Springfield General Store. He also bailed hay for severalyears from Twin Bridges to Fort Lupton. Camp helped haul gravelused to build Milton Reservoir in 1911. When he quit haulingmilk, he bought a farm east of Platteville and began his owndairy. After five years he sold his dairy business, but kept thefeed cattle. Land Camp had bought in 1932 is still owned by thefamily. Camp retired in 1962 at age 81, he turned the farm, withits 600 head of cattle over to his sons. He and his wife spentmost of their time after his retirement traveling. Camp wasactive in community government and served as the Town's Mayorfor 16 years. He had served on the Town Board for all but one ortwo terms over a 38 year period. Survivors are a daughter Mrs.Louise C Robb San Antonio TX. four sons, Lloyd E and Melvin J.,of Platteville. John W of Long Beach CA. Harold D of FortMorgan: 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mrs Campdied in 1973 and a daughter Mary Mitchell is deceased.Recitation of the Rosary was held Wednesday, Oct. 17 and Mass ofthe Christian Burial held Thursday at St. Nicholas CatholicChurch at Platteville.
