There he ran a gun and bicycle shop, pilot an excursion steam on Dells,engineered the portage water station. He served in the regimental band of 11th Wisconsin Regiment in Civil War and had an injury. Dates came from DAR information. The following is the obituary from the local paper: THOMAS P. CAMP Thomas P.Camp was born in Herrick, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, March 23, 1837. The Camp family came west to Chicago by a sailing vessel on the Great Lakes, thence overland to Lee County,Illinois. Here this pioneer family was overtaken by cholera, the dread disease of the early settlers. There was no nearby home,and consequently no home comforts could be administered to the sick. The settlers were scattered and what few there were feared to come near with sympathy and help lest they too might contract the disease. One man finally came and offered the family a cabin and helped the Camp family get their belongings and sick into it. This man and his wife brought such remedies as they had and could get, but the father and four brothers of Thomas Camp died and were buried in a clump of trees near the cabin. These trees still stand to mark and to guard the sacred spot. The mother and remaining children then moved up into Dane County, Wisconsin,settling near the town of Oregon. Thomas Camp served in theCivil War as a member of the 11th Regiment Band from Wisconsin.He was married soon after the close of the war to Emma JaneColladay, April 18, 1865. She preceded him in death December 28,1915. To this union four children were born, all of whom are living--George L. and Forrest W. of Chicago, Charles C. of Reinbeck, Iowa and Mrs. Stella Kullmer of Oskaloosa, with whom Mr. Camp has made his home for several years. Funeral services,in charge of Rev. H.C. Bedford, pastor of the College Avenue Friends Church and the G.A.R., were held Wednesday, March 26,1924. Interment was made in the cemetery at Reinbeck, Iowa.March 25, 1924 Thomas P.
