Notes for Thomas CURTIS
From the print-out I note that one Thomas Curtis and Mary Camp were married on August 24, 1585; and that he married for a second time a widow named Mary Shelley on July 3, 1596. Another Thomas Curtis was baptized on July 21, 1594. Among the listing of burials is a Thomas Curtis on July 3, 1596. This date differs by two years from the information contained on the chart of the genealogist Charles Arthur Hoppin prepared in 1935.

Thomas Curtis cu coddicillo. In the name of god
Amen. I Thomas Curtis of Nazing in the countie of Essex
Yeoman being sick in bodie hole in mind and of pfecte
remembrance thanks be the ffather of our Lord Jesus
Christe this l3th of December Ano Dni 1604 doe make and
ordeine this my laste Will and Testamente in mannr and
forme followinge viz ffyrst and princepally I Comend my
Sowle to God who gave mee it in assurance of the eternall
peace of it throughe fayth in Christe my saviour and my
bodye to be buried at the discrecon of my Executrixe.
Itm I give unto my Daughter Martha one fether bede. Item
I give unto my Daughter Mary one other ffeather bede.
Item I give unto my Daughter Elizabeth the cubboard in
the old parlor. Item I give my table in the old parlor
to my Sonne and all that was my first wyves and my
Lynnen to be equally devided amongst my llj Daughters.
Item I give unto Mary my wyfe my house and Lande with all
apptinances for xij years after my decease uppon
Condicon that at the ende of six yeares she doe paye or
cause to bee payde unto every of my sayd daughters fortie
pounds in marmr and forme followinge vizt., I will that
shee doe paye uhto Martha my Daughter forty pounds with
in the Compasse of the seaventh and eight years after my
decease. Item I give unto Mary my Daughter forty pounds
to bee payd unto her in the ixth and xth years nexte
after my decease. Item I give to Elizabeth my Daughter
forty pounds to bee payd unto her in the xith and xijth
years after my decease. Item my will and mearming is that
if my wife doe not pay the three porcons before menconed
accordinge to this my Will that then my three Daughters
shall have my howse and land for the last six years to
rayse them ther sayd porcons. Item I do give unto my
sonne my howse and land after the ende of xij yeres uppon
condicon that he doo paye unto my wife yearly viij pounds
duringe her naturall life and if he refuse to pay the
sayd eight pounds that then shee shall have halfe my
house and land. Item all the rest of my goods moveable
and unmoveable what soever ungiven and bequeathe I give
unto my wife whome I make my sole Executrixe of this my
will. In witness where of I have sette my hand the day
and yeare above written in the presence of us.

Coddicillum Thome Curtis. Whereas Martha, Mary and
Elizabeth should have forty pounds a peece, It is now my
Will that it should be payd at the entranc of the three
two years if the Mother dye after shee hath payd this
monney if shee Dye before the two yeares bee expired and
then it shall be payd backe and if it bee but one quarter
and likewise the other two shall paye backe like unto the
other sister they shall paye enters of this lande Itye
Busheyleys by a surrender to them that the monney should
bee pay backe to if it be not payd accordinge.
