Through the kindness of Mrs. Clyde W. Fisher, Palm Beach, Florida, the following is given from data collected by her father and uncle: Samuel Camp, born at Durham, Conn., May 14, 1753, son of Rev. Ichabod Camp, the first minister of Amherst Parish, married in Amherst Co., Va., Nov 13, 1776, Mary daughter of Gerrard and Ann (Stanton) Banks; died in Warren Co., GA., 1824. Samuel Camp was assistant Quatermaster in Col. Gabriel Penn's Regt. He writes to his father from Albemarle Barracks 6 June 1779 and his family record shows that he was in Washington Co., GA., Dec 1, 1782. He received a grant of 287 1/2 acres in Washington Co., GA., for Revolutionary service. The Certificate reads: "Georgia - These are to certify, That Serjeant Samuel Camp of the Second Battalion of Continental Troops of the Georgia Line - is entitled to one Hundred and fifty acres of Lane, as a Bounty, agreeable to an Act and Resolve of the General Assembly, passed at Augusta the 20th August 1781 and to one Hundred & fifty acres by a resolution of Congress of the 16th Sept. 1776, as P Certificate, Saml. Elber, B. G. Given under my Hand at Augusta the 8 day of July in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and eighty-four. signed by J. Houstoun"

Leaving Warrenton, GA on Hwy 16 traveling toward Sparta. Turn left on Hwy 123. Go approximately 1 mile. On the left will be an old farmhouse once painted green with several old trees in the side and back yards. Directly across the road from the old house is a narrow farm lane lying between a pasture and a stretch of woods. The grave is about 100 yards west of Hwy 123.

The following is a list of the names of such officers and soldiers
only who made application to the Governor and Council of the State of Georgia,
in pursuance of the second section of an act of the Assembly, passed on the
17th day of February, 1783, entitled, "An Act for opening the Land Office, and
for other purposes therein mentioned," for procuring a certificate in
pursuance of the section above referred to, and a resolution of Congress, of
the 16th of September, 1776, of the bounty of land due them respectively for
their services during the last war with Great Britain, in what was called the
Georgia Continental Establishment.
