ST CLAIR: Tom was killed in the WW1 on Feb 5, 1919. His ship the Tuscania was blown up by the German submarine Tuscania off of the coast of Ireland at 5:50PM on Feb 5, 1919. He went from Oklahoma in the 1st draft Sept 1917 to Camp Travis, later sailed from New York the latter part of Jan 1918. When the ship was off the North Coast of Ireland it was torpedoed by a German submarine on the of Feb 5, 1919. The troops on the ship marched to their different life boats quietly and were lowered into the sea. By then it was dark and the sea was somewhat rough and by some accident the life boat containing Tom St Clair was overturned and all its occupants thrown into the water. All the boys in the boats wore life belts and it was impossible for them to sink, but drifting in the almost freezing water all night, chilled them to death. Tom's body together with two other men's bodies washed ashore the next day on the Island of Ilay, a part of Scotland. The Scottish people picked up all the bodies of the men who lost their lives in the sinking of the ship and carefully buried them all in one grave. They marked each place were each body lay with his name and number. Since then the boys who were buried there have been sent home to their relations. Tom's body now rest in the Red Creek Cemetery in Kimble Co., TX near Landon. More About THOMAS E. ST CLAIR: Burial: Red Creek Cemetery, Kimble Co., near Landon v. JOE ST CLAIR. 25. vi.
