Notes for WILLIAM CAMP: [CampOttmer.FTW] William was born 7Apr. 1783 in Connecticut and died in Camptown, PA. He MarriedJedida Lacey on 22 Sept. 1803. After her death he then marriedDaniel Lum's widow Sarah (Bailey ) Lum on 17 Oct. 1848.William was elected as a judge for Wyalusing Township in thefirst election for Bradford County on October 13, 1812. Hebuilt a large brick house on Camp property in Camptown, PA. Thebricks were made from clay found on the property which was mixedwith sand in a circular pit and trodden by oxen attached to asweep. The house is forty by sixty feet, two stories plus anattic, has six chimneys and nine fireplaces including one in thecellar which can cook 14 loaves of bread at one time. A DanWrigth, a carpenter from Tunkhannock, helped build the house.Being an expert wood carver he carved a wooden rope moulding byhand with a jack knife. This can be seen under the eaves on theoutside of the house. In 1841 William was the first CamptownPostmaster. In later years he shared the house with his sonHomer; William and his second wife lived in the east end. Inthe 1800 census there is a William Camp living in WyalusingTownship, Luzerne Co., PA. In the 1820 census, there is aWilliam Camp listed for Bradford County, Wyalusing Township whohas correct number and ages of children. Census was taken byRuben Wilber and is on Page 90 of Census. In the 1850 Censusfor Wyalusing Township, it shows William (67) and his wifeSally(65) a daughter Juliett (21) and an Edward Smith who was 6yrs. old.
