On this 25th day of February A.D. 1881,personally appeared before me, a Clerk of District Court in andfor the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths,Wesley Camp, aged 49 years, a resident of Alma in the Co., ofHarlan and State of Nebraska, well known to be to be reputableand entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares inrelation to his claim for pension as follows: My Post OfficeAddress is Alma Harlan Co., Nebraska. For five years immediatelypreceeding my enlistment into the service of the United Stateson the 14th day of February, 1862, I resided in the followingPlaces; At Webster City Hamilton Co., Iowa from 1954 to 1859from last date to date of enlistment at Hellena, Tama Co., Iowa.My occupation was that of a Carpenter. Since my discharge fromsaid service on the 20th day of February 1863, I have resided atChelsea Tama Co., Iowa from date of discharge to about ---- dayof November 1874 from which date at Linden Fumas Co., Nebraskauntil May 1877. At Clamenu Shelby Co., MO until Aug 1879 fromthat time to the present date at this place as first abovementioned. My occupation has been that of Merchant. I furtherstate that the disability for which I claim a pension arisesfrom Spinal Meningitis which was contracted between PittsburgLanding Tenn and Corinth Miss. First had mumps while marching,caught cold, resulting in the disease above stated, alsoproduced disease of the heart and possible affection of left armand side and diarrehia. >From my said discharge to the presenttime, I have received the following medical treatment for saiddiseas. Dr. E A Stocking of Chelsea Iowa was my medical advisorand family Physician from the time I was discharged until 1874from which time until Aug (unreadable) such remedies as I hadprepared for me by my Physician. Since last date mentioned Ihave been under treatment of Dr. G S Love of Alma Nebraska. I amadvised that Dr. Stocking is dead. Since the origin of thedisability for which pension is claimed, I have suffered withthe following acute diseases: Have had acute suffering at leastonce in three or four months during the whole time sincediseases were contracted. At times would only last four or fivedays but suffer personally about from two to four weeks andcontinually during unsettled weather. For which I was treated byDr. Stocking and Love as above stated. And during all of thesaid time my physical condition and ability to perform manuallabor has been as follows; I have not at any time since diseasewas contracted been able to do ordinary labor which required theleast extention of my physical prowness, but have been compelledto engage myself in such business as I could allowed withoutsuch extention which I have followed by the assistance of myfamily and others whom I employed. Handwritten Affidavit of James Walton State ofNebraska, County of Fumas, In the matter of Invalid Pension ofWesley Camp late of "C" 10th Iowa Vol. Personally came before mea clerk of the District Court in and aforesaid county and stateJames Walton aged thirty-eight years citizen of Fumas county ofFumas State of Nebraska well known to me to be reputable andentitled to credit, and who being duly sworn discusses inrelation to above claim as follows. That he was a member of Co"C" 10th Reg Iowa Vol that, he was well acquainted with saidWesley camp from the time of his enlistment in said company towit about the 14th day of February 1962. That he was with him insaid company until about the 20 day of June same year, and whenthis command was on the march from Pittsburg Landing Tenn, toCorinth Miss said Camp was taken sick with mumps and was exposedto inclement weather, took cold and was sent to hospital atHamburg Tenn. That said claimant never returned to the companythereafter. Affiant was informed that said Camp was dischargedfrom said service during the month of February 1863. Affiantfurther states he has been intimitely acquainted with saidsoldier except a few short intervals ever since he returned fromthe army on date of discharge to wit about the 10 day of October1865. That at the time said Camp enlisted in said service he wasa very stout robust healthy man apparently free from disease.That during his entire acquaintance with him since date lastaforesaid he has been in very poor health, a good portion of thetime for several days at a time confined to his room, and veryoften to his bed for several days at a time. That once in awhile he has seen him performing manual labor. That from hisentire acquaintance and knowledge of his disease he was and isup to the present date unable to performeven moderate labor halfthe time. That his knowledge of the above facts is derived froma personal acquaintance during the time aforesaid hearing himcomplain, seeing him take medicine, and seeing him in thevarious conditions above described. He further declares that hehas no interest in said case and is not concerned in itsprosecution. That his PO address is Baxer City, Fumas CountyState of Nebraska. Handwritten Letter Wesley CampInvalid Claim No 4070631 In the matter of claim for originalinvalid pension of Wesley Camp late private of Co "C" 10th RegIowa Inf Vols. Said applicant in his own behalf states. That hewas at and received treatment for the disabilities complained ofat the following hospitals viz Post Hospital at Hamburg Tenn on& about the last part of May 1862 where he remained until aboutJuly 1 1862 from which place he was taken on a hospital boat toKeokuk Iowa where he remained until the month of December sameyear. At Hamburg he was treated by Surgeon Maxwell whosewhereabouts at the present is unknown to him. At Keokuk he wastreated for a portion of the time by the same man who had beensent to the last named place. Also Wm Everett, dead, who wasafterwards Commission assistant Surgeon from 10th Reg Iowa InfVols who was sent to said Reg at Holly Springs Miss, and whogave this applicant for pension of disability at Holly Springsto discharge him from service which certificate has been filedwith evidence in the case. Said Everett was a man advanced inage at that time said Camp has not heard from or known hiswhereabouts since said date last aforesaid. For reasons unknownmade in former statements relation was taken to St. Louis andthen discharged. After discharge relation was treated for eightor nine years for said disability by Dr E A Stocking of CheleyIowa after which time relation was not treated by any otherphysician except by prescription until he was treated by GeorgeS Love of Alma Neb. The aforesaid Dr Stocking is dead. Dr G SJarvis present address is Alma Harlan County State of nebraska.Relation further says that his old family physician who treatedhis family prior to enlistment in said service was Dr Johthananof Hellena Tama County Iowa is also dead as relation is credablyinformed. Inft on this 7day of November A.D. 1889 before me a notary public in and forthe aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths,personally appeared Uriah Richardson age 45 years, a resident ofOakley in the County of Logan and State of Kansas whose PostOffice Address is Oakley Kans and Charles A Thomas age 47 aresident of Oakley in the County of Logan and State of Kansaswhose Post Office Address is Oakley Kansas well known to me tobe respectable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn,declare in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That we havebeen well and personally acquainted with Wesley Camp the saidsoldier for 18 years and 13 years, respectively, and we knowfrom our own personal knowledge that after said soldier'sdischarge from the U.S. service, we first met him in the firstthe year 1896. and at that time we noticed he was affected asfollows: Defective eyesight, Spinal Meningitis, and chronicDiarrhea and that said disability disabled him from performingmanual labor the greater part of the time and for the last fouryears he has not been able to perform manual labor of any kindand we do consider his disability equal to the loss of one legabove the knee and the loss of one hand and is in need of aconstant attendant.
