Johnand "the boys" built a two room log cabin, put in a crop ofwheat and corn, then returned to Jackson County to bring therest of the family down to Henry. On the move form JacksonCounty a huge bear plagued the Camp wagons. John and "the boys"killed the bear, dressed it out for the meat they could use, cured the hide and used it for the cover of the log cabin doorduring the first winter the Camps were in Henry (now Clayton)County. John was by trade a carpenter and a farmer. He lived tothe ripe old age of 92 years. At age 85, he climbed aboard aroad wagon and went to Smith County, Texas, where he died July3, 1877! (This writer (Jackie S. Camp) believes that son,Seaborn drove him, since Seaborn is not counted in the local1870 census records).
