In the name of god Amen the one & twentith Day of May 1630 & in the Sixe yeere of the reigne of our Sovereigne Lord King Charles.

I John Campe the elder of Nasing in the Countie of Essex & Diocese of London yeoman being Sicke in bodie but of very good & perfect remembrance thanks be to god Doe make & ordeine this my last will & testament in writing.

Inprimis I commende my Soule into the hands of allmightie God my creator in hope of resurrection through Jesus Christ my redeemer hoping assuredly thro the merrits to bemade partaker of his everlasting kingdom of heaven And I comitt my bodie to the Earth to be buryed in such place as it shall please god to appoynt for me.

Concerning such worldly goods and Lands as it hath pleased god of his mercy to be stow uppon me I doe dispose of them as followeth in this my will:

First I give & bequeath unto John Campe my sonne the sum of three pounds of lawfull money to be payed to him by my executrixat the Decease of Mary my wife or within one month next after her Decease, allso I give to him one great joyned stoole in the Chamber,

Item: I give unto George my sonne some of fower poundes to be payed unto him within fower yeares next after my Decease allso I give unto him my fetherbed in the Chamber whereon I use to lie with the blankets & furniture thereunto belonging & one payer of sheetes.

Item: I give unto Nicholas my sonne the sume of three poundes of lawfull English money to be payed unto him within six monthes next after my Decease allso I give unto him my table in the hall; two Chaires, all my painted Cloathes, my great Chest at my beddfoote & one payer of sheetes.

Item: I give & bequeath unto Thomas my sonne the sum of Eight poundes of Lawfull money of England, to be payd unto him at his Age of one & twentie yeeres: allso I give unto him the little bed & bedsteddle in the loft over the chamber with the furniture thereto belonging & one payer of sheetes:

Item: I give unto Mary my Daughter the sume of five poundes of lawfull money to be payed unto her within six yeeres next after my Decease, allso I give unto her my biggest kettle.

Item: I give unto Sarah my Daughter the sume of three poundes of lawfull money to be payed unto her within three yeeres next after my Decease: allso I give unto her the fetherbed & bedsteddle (in the new loft) with all the furniture thereto belonging, my Chest under the Chamber window: my Cubbard in the Chamber,

one kettle my biggest but / I give to Mary: three napkins & a brazen Candlestick.


Item: I give unto Elizabeth Campe my grandchild the sume of three poundes of lawfull money to be payed unto her at the age of xxiii yeeres, Allso I give unto her the flockbed in the Loft with furniture;

Item: I give unto John Campe my grandchild the sume of twentie shillings to be payed to him at his age of xxiii yeeres

Item: I give unto John Eylott my grandchild the sume of xx ? shillings to be payed to him at his age of xxiii yeeres

All the Rest of my moveable goods Cattell & household stuffe whatsoever I have not before bequeathed I give & bequeath unto Mary my wife.

Notes for JOHN CAMPE: John Camp was frequently called "John, the elder" because he had a son John who was also well know around Nazeing Parish. John's profession was listed as a yeoman which means he was a farmer who owned his own land. "The will of John Camp the elder of Nazeing, Co. Essex, yeoman, dated 21 May 1630, proved 11 Jun1630. Bequeaths to sons John, George, Nicholas, Thomas; to daughters Mary and Sarah; to grandchildren Elizabeth and John Camp; to John Eliot my grandchild when he reaches age 18 years; residue to wife, Mary, who is named executrix; desires his good friends Richard and William Camp to be overseers."
